The Two Types of Divorce Maintenance

There are basically two types of divorce maintenance issues that need to be addressed in a divorce settlement agreement. The first is spousal maintenance and is not as common as it was in the past. This is mainly due to the fact that most families survive on a dual income basis where both parties contribute to the family income making spousal maintenance unnecessary after a divorce.

The second type of divorce maintenance takes into account the financial needs of any minors that formed part of the marriage union whether naturally or by adoption. Each parent needs to contribute to these financial needs whether they have custody of a child or not.
