When a property is either bought or sold in South Africa, the correct steps have to be taken by the various parties included in property transfers. Property transfers can happen between individuals, companies, close corporations or trusts.
Transferring attorneys are attorneys who specialise in property law. They are responsible for the management of the deed documents and coordinate property transfers. They will also prepare the necessary documents that have to be signed by the various parties involved in property transfers.
From the moment that the Registrar at the Deeds Office signs the title deed, the buyer is the new owner of the property. Buyers are informed of successful property transfers and they are given a title deed as documentary proof of this.

In South Africa, there are usually four parties involved with bond registrations. The parties are the bank, SARS, the conveyance attorneys and the Deeds Office. Without these role players, bond registrations would not happen at all.
Whether you purchase a property with the help of a bond or with cash, the bank will always be involved with bond registrations. The bank will either lend you the money in order to buy the property in the form of a bond, or the bank will supply the attorney and seller with a guarantee that the money is in the bank.
The Deeds Office requires a fee to be paid for the registration of a bond and the fee structure works on a sliding scale. Fees payable to the Deeds Office that are associated with bond registrations, are called Deeds Office registration fees.
