Buying a house can be very exciting, but before diving in head first, make sure you are aware of all the costs involved, like bond costs, transfer duties and conveyancing fees.
When buying a property, you have to pay the conveyance attorneys who register the property in your name, as well as the conveyance attorneys appointed by the bank to register a mortgage bond over your property. These are known as conveyancing fees.
The Law Society of South Africa has recommended tariffs that conveyancing attorneys may charge to transfer property into your name and register your bond. The higher the purchase price of the property, the higher the conveyancing fees.

Conveyancing describes the legal procedure whereby ownership of immovable property is changed – that is ownership is conveyed from the existing owner to the purchaser. Every time a property is bought or sold in South Africa, conveyancing attorneys will be involved.
Due to the many people and institutions involved, it is very difficult to estimate precisely how long a transfer should take from the time that the conveyancing attorneys receive their instructions.
Without conveyancing attorneys bond transfer and registration is not possible. The actions of conveyancing attorneys are dictated by the contents of the respective purchase agreement between the property seller and the property buyer as recorded in the Deed of Sale.
